The high prevalence of AD within our patient group can be attributed to multiple factors. AD, being a condition that can manifest across all age groups, coupled with the tropical climate of Singapore, poses considerable challenges in achieving effective control. The relentless humidity and warmth can exacerbate symptoms, adding layers of complexity to treatment regimens.
Diagnosis and Treatment Paradigms
In diagnosing and treating AD, a clinical approach remains paramount. There are various diagnostic criteria that can be used, but diagnosis primarily relies on clinical assessment. However, the management landscape has evolved significantly, and clinicians now have a spectrum of treatment modalities, that can be tailored to suit individual patient needs.
Traditionally, treatment options for AD have included steroidal and non-steroidal topical creams, as well as phototherapy.
