Healthier SG Chronic Tier Subsidy Is Now In Effect: Who is eligible and what medications are subsidized?

What is the Healthier SG Chronic Tier?

Starting February 2024, the Healthier SG Chronic Tier aims to make common chronic medications more affordable for residents visiting Healthier SG GP clinics. This subsidy program ensures that selected medications are available at lower rates for those enrolled at Healthier SG GP clinics, comparable to the rates offered at polyclinics.

Who Qualifies for Healthier SG Chronic Tier?

Under the Healthier SG subsidy framework, individuals holding Community Health Assist Scheme (CHAS), Pioneer Generation (PG), and Merdeka Generation (MG) cards are eligible for Healthier SG Chronic Tier subsidies. These subsidies are applicable for specific medications listed on the Healthier SG Medication List.

Determining Eligibility

For most Singaporean patients, chronic disease medication costs at their enrolled GP clinic are already covered under CHAS. However, the Healthier SG Chronic Tier becomes beneficial for CHAS/PG/MG cardholders with higher medication needs, where their bills may surpass the current CHAS annual subsidy limits.

Choosing the Right Subsidy Framework

Patients can utilize only one subsidy framework per visit, either the CHAS Chronic Tier or the Healthier SG Chronic Tier. To accommodate future changes in medication needs, individuals can switch between the two frameworks. The remaining balance in the annual dollar subsidy will be adjusted at the next visit when switching between subsidy frameworks, considering the varying annual limits.

What about MediSave for Chronic Conditions?

Effective February 1, 2024, residents enrolled in the Chronic Disease Management Program (CDMP) can now utilize MediSave to cover the entire cost of their treatment at their designated Healthier SG clinics, up to the withdrawal limit of their MediSave500 / MediSave700 scheme. This eliminates the requirement for a 15% cash co-payment previously needed for their bills.
