HSA Safety Alert:  Withdrawal Of Pholcodine-Containing Products In Singapore
The Health Sciences Authority (HSA) aims to notify medical practitioners about its regulatory choice to remove products containing pholcodine from circulation in Singapore. After conducting a benefit-risk evaluation, HSA, in consultation with its Product Vigilance Advisory Committee (PVAC), has determined that the advantages of using pholcodine for alleviating non-productive cough symptoms are outweighed by the potential elevated risk of perioperative anaphylaxis (POA) associated with neuromuscular blocking agents (NMBA).
