The World Health Organization (WHO) has officially declared the recent surge in mpox cases a public health emergency of international concern (PHEIC). This announcement was made by WHO Director-General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, following consultations with an independent IHR Emergency Committee of experts who assessed the current situation.
