The Singapore National Eye Centre (SNEC) has observed a marked increase in cases of diplopia, commonly known as double vision, without an identifiable cause, reflecting a global trend. Binocular diplopia, characterised by double vision with both eyes open that resolves upon closing one eye, or monocular diplopia, occurring when one eye is covered, are the primary presentations reported. A recent survey revealed a significant increase in binocular diplopia cases at SNEC, with 234 patients recorded between 2011 and 2020, compared to just 15 patients from 2001 to 2010. Notably, 76 cases were already reported between 2021 and 2023.
